12th Annual Dance Africa Pittsburgh: Heart to Heart

This year marks the 12th Annual Dance Africa Pittsburgh, a mainstay event hosted by the Legacy Arts Project and features a meet-n-greet, panel discussion, an African marketplace, and local/regional/international performances.

Hosted over 2 days (July 27 and 28) at the New Hazlett Theater, the event features two shows on each day (3pm and 7pm), reflecting the beauty of the African diaspora.

Myth-Science of the Gatekeepers - Now through July 28 at Pittsburgh Glass Center

Myth-Science of the Gatekeepers (2024) is a collection of 16 life-size glass statues of Black queer Kemetic (ancient Egyptian) deities. Providing a modern take on Kemetic granodiorite statues, the busts were made through a lost wax casting process and affixed with headpieces fabricated with glass blowing and hot sculpting techniques. This project is a revival and expansion of the traditions of gatekeepers, an ancient African lineage of queer spirit workers, artisans, and diviners, and it presents to the world a new Afro-diasporic spiritual system.

This series is now open at the Pittsburgh Glass Center (5472 Penn Ave. Pittsburgh, PA), and it runs until July 28, 2024.
